Shelby Lane

Award-winning photographer Shelby Lane is passionate about her work, and this joy shines through in her strikingly authentic portraits of children and babies. Her portraits capture the art in everyday life, from a newborn’s contented yawn, to a toddler’s joyful giggle, to a mother-to-be’s wonder at the new life she carries. After ten years of general portrait and wedding experience, she chose to focus on maternity and children’s photography in 2001 and has been photographing young lives for Dallas, San Antonio, and Austin area families ever since.

Her unique style is a result of her fresh approach to modern portraiture, capturing dynamic yet timeless images rather than the static studio pictures she recalls from her own childhood. She explains: "I attempt to capture a true sense of the moment in every image I create. Rather than traditional, 'everyone look at the camera and smile' pictures, I try to create images that reflect each individual's personality and say something about the relationships between each person in the portrait. I believe that a portrait should capture who you are right now, freezing a moment for a lifetime. And that's what my work is all about: creating art that captures life."

In addition to her portrait work, Shelby also has done special project work with select commercial clients, including babystyle, The Down Syndrome Association of San Antonio, Smith Protective Services, and New York Times bestselling author Lisa Kleypas.

Shelby is a member of the Professional Photographers of America, the Texas Professional Photographers Association, and the Professional Photographers Guild of San Antonio.
