Studio News and a Sneak Peak for Taylor

For those of you who follow the blog and have been emailing me about "POST SOMETHING" here I am!  We have been so busy over the past month... and then Spring Break hit, so Abbey went on vacation and then Good Friday and Easter came and went.  So it has been a crazy couple of weeks with a weird schedule.  I want to make sure everyone knows that the studio will be closed till next Tuesday afternoon because I will be on the road.

I have unofficially announced the beach session dates.  And this is where we'll see who REALLY reads the blog.  Mark your calendars for June 20-22 on Mustang Island.  I can only take a max of SIX sessions and we already have one booked.  I will make a "real" blog post about it next week but if you are super serious about wanting beach sessions, shoot me an email and I will get back to you when I get back into the office.

And now the best reason for tonight's post.  I got to photograph a really wonderful high school senior girl and I know she and her mom are dying for some sneak peeks.  So here you go, Taylor and Mary.  Taylor, it was great working with you!  I can't wait for you to see the rest of these.  Thank you!

More on the Urban Sessions

I was emailing with a client I loooooooove who was talking about how cool the urban sessions are for kids.  Her kids are a great age for this, because to me, these are like "Kindergarten Senior Portraits" in some ways.  Technically, they're still Little Kids but they get a chance to show off what Big Kids they are becoming.  These sessions will be so much fun!  Why are we only offering them in February and March?  Weather and light.  By the time April rolls around, the light will have changed and we won't have this golden winter glow anymore.  And then the heat and humidity show up at about the same time... after ten minutes outside, even the most good-natured kid has sticky hair and wants to go in where the air conditioning will make things more comfortable.  But in February and March, it should still be cool enough for them to wear great outfits and still be comfortable.

February Special: Urban Sessions

Since we're almost halfway through January, I figured it was time to announce our February special.  Our new "Urban Sessions" are a fun way to capture portraits of your kids that really showcase their personality.  We photograph these in downtown New Braunfels, in locations within walking distance from our studio.  These unique portraits are designed for kids who can stand alone, and we can do two outfit changes in our alloted time.  They will ONLY be available in February and March, and we have limited times that we can schedule these because we only do outdoor sessions during the "good light" windows of the day.  We are scheduling for these sessions RIGHT NOW so please call or email the studio to reserve your space.

Charlotte picked the wardrobe for this session, but if we had done a costume change, I would have had her favorite "crazy four year old" outfit: a tee shirt, jacket, one of our studio pettiskirts, leggings and boots.  Your child's favorite "trendy" or "playing dress up" outfits are perfect for this urban setting.  You all know that I love to help you choose your wardrobe so I am open to any ideas you might have.

Photographers Kids Revisited

My friend Stacia stopped by the studio today with her boys, and while we were talking business, the kids decided to play dress up.  Don't they all look fabulous?  I love the choices they made.  :)  We couldn't let the moment pass us buy without grabbing a quick shot of them in their winter gear.  Thanks, Stacia, for coming by!  I know you will love that backdrop!

Tis the season

Have you been outside today?  For those of you who are in the SA/Austin area, it is COLD.  I sent Charlotte to school with a jacket because her uniform pants don't fit (she wore knee socks today) but I didn't send Mac with one.  1) Because he has trouble keeping up with his lunchbox, and I was afraid that we'd never see the jacket again and 2) because I figured it would warm up by noon.  BOY was I wrong.  It's still about 58 degrees here and I LOVE IT.

Which brings me to my point.  I know that it is tough to think about holiday portraits when it's 95 degrees outside.  ;)  But today, while it's nice and cold, have a cup of hot chocolate and put "Call and book our familiy portrait" on your to do list.  We are not in the studio on Mondays, so if you call today you'll just get voice mail.  We are almost completely full for weekends up until our deadlines, but I do still have some weekday appointments.  And, if you are a Little Blessings member, please call me now to get on the calendar.  Once we are full, it is really tough to work little ones in and I don't want anyone to miss a milestone because of the holiday season rush.

We had another email outage over the weekend, so if you have been trying to get in touch with me and haven't gotten a response, please try again.  We also have a shipment of coffee table books coming in this week and I know that a few of you have been waiting forever.  :)

Still looking for some senior models...

We were busier this summer than we expected, and apparently so were you all!  We didn't manage to schedule and photograph the senior models we wanted to see.  Now school is about to start, and we still need a few people for the new senior website.  Please contact me if you're interested in being one of our models -- we have some cool stuff planned for September for our studio reps.  Sean6

Bluebonnets!

I finally started seeing bluebonnets this week!  I still don't have a good, secret patch for portraits, though.  The one I used for years has been covered with highway construction materials.  Have you ever noticed that most bluebonnet patches are in really dangerous locations -- places where you wouldn't want your kids running around?  Or they're in "keep off the grass" areas that are safe, but against the rules to walk around on and shoot in.  McCurdy gets worried every time we try to do bluebonnet portraits.  "Are we going to get arrested for stepping on the state flower?"

So to answer all of you who have called asking, are you doing bluebonnet portraits?  The answer is, sadly, no, unless I find a good safe spot for all the kiddos to gather.  If you know of one that we could use, let me know and we'll have a secret sale.  :)
